Wow. This is crazy. In interviews, she claimed that she saw 50-60 plastic surgeons before she could find one who would create a third breast for her. Creating a third breast is possible, I suppose, but difficult and would likely necessitate several surgeries.
I doubt that any real, board-certified plastic surgeons in their right mind would perform this deforming procedure. I certainly wouldn’t. The doctor who did perform this operation on her should be ashamed of himself or herself. What a creep, indeed.
UPDATE: It appears the 3 breasted woman is a HOAX. Apparently she’s wearing some kind of prosthetic. Pretty creepy though!

Do you suffer from problems with excessive odor of the armpits or hidradenitis of the armpits? If you do, and you live within driving distance of my office in Metro Detroit, then please contact me at [email protected] if you’d be interested in a novel, non-surgical option. You must be willing to have your treatment filmed for television and be interviewed for the segment.
Thanks!

You may have seen photos circulating on the internet with examples of women who look incredibly like real Barbie dolls. I’m not talking about plastic surgery ‘enthusiasts’ like Jenny Lee, but young women (often Eastern European) who look like real Barbie dolls. The newest one, Lolita Richi, is only 16 and claims to have a 20 inch waist, 32F bra size, and absolutely no plastic surgery. Seriously??
I was asked by Yahoo! to discuss the psychology of these Human Barbie dolls. Do they have a type of BDD?
You can read my comments on the Yahoo! article HERE.

The blog title is the funny headline from a recent National Enquirer article where I was asked what I thought about Courteney Cox’s lips. Although I don’t recall ever yelling for her to “Stop The Drastic Plastic!” I do think her lips look quite overdone. In fact, they are bordering on trout pout levels. She’s such a natural beauty and would look even better with smaller, natural lips.
The photo here is from 2012, but there is a more recent photo on the National Enquirer article HERE.

Although this news isn’t as exciting to the general public as, say, Bruce Jenner’s latest bizarre change in appearance, it’s huge news in the plastic surgery and dermatology market. Allergan, pioneers of some of the most game-changing and innovative products in cosmetic medicine, are the target of a possible hostile takeover bid by rival Valeant. Allergan are the makers of Botox, Juvederm, Latisse, Natrelle breast implants, and their latest, Voluma. Their products are the best in the biz. So why are they in trouble?
Valeant is a company that has very quickly acquired a massive portfolio of plastic surgery products, some of which they have recently sold. At one time or another, they’ve acquired Obagi, Restylane, Perlane, Dysport, and Sculptra. Allergan is now in their sights.
So why are some plastic surgeons (like myself) worried? The concern is research and development (R&D). Allergan has been at the forefront of R&D for cosmetic products, as evidenced by their game-changers like Voluma and Latisse. They spend a lot of money researching new plastic surgery technology. This is good for both doctors and patients.
So the big question is: If Valeant takes over Allergan, will they continue Allergan’s tradition of aggressive R&D? Valeant says they will, but some physicians aren’t so sure.
One thing is for sure: the Allergan stockholders (and former stockholders) have benefitted. The stock has gone through the roof since Valeant announced its takeover bid. This is an interesting back-and-forth story. I hope it has a happy ending.

Have you heard of ZO Skin Health and ZO Medical skin care products? This is the new line of skin care products developed by Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi. I’ve recently had the privilege of being named as a ZO Skin Health faculty member.
ZO Skin Health and ZO Medical represent the latest and greatest in medical grade and cosmetic grade skin care on the planet. He combines some of his tried and true principles of skin rejuvenation (such as bleaching and blending) with some of the latest thinking in skin care (such as growth factors, peptides, and antioxidants). This has resulted in a line of products that, in my opinion, is unsurpassed by all other skin care lines, medical or cosmetic. You WILL see results if you used ZO products as directed. This can’t be said for most of the other skin care products out there today. ZO skin care products can only be purchased in a physician’s office and can not be purchased online.
To learn more about ZO, please visit the website HERE or see the list of esteemed faculty HERE. I’m in good company.

Have you ever considered getting a nose job but didn’t want surgery? Have you had a botched nose job? More and more doctors are now injecting filler into the nose to correct defects and even to make it look straighter. A friend of mine, and prominent Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Kotler, has devised a very simple way to preview how your nose would look if you had filler injected into it. He calls it the 5 Minute Kotler Saline Demo. Basically, he injects saline into your nose to change the shape of it for a couple hours. Then the saline disappears. It’s a simple but effective way to find out how your nose will look without going through with it.
You can find out more information on his website HERE.
In plastic surgery, sometimes the simple solutions are the ones that work the best!

There is an interesting article in the International Business Times that explores the current culture of plastic surgery. It’s worth a read. Here are some highlights:
- Selfies and their popularity in social media are causing more and more people to undergo procedures to improve their appearance. Even the appearance of their hands, as hand selfies for engagement rings are popular.
- The ideal appearance varies depending on the location. I’m quoted that the cosmetic ideal in Detroit (a natural, non-augmented look) is likely different from that in L.A. or Miami.
- South Korea just may have the highest per capita plastic surgery procedures in the world. This is not necessarily a good thing!
- One plastic surgeon is quoted as saying that fat is the future of plastic surgery. I would have to agree.

This is a surprise, since it’s pretty uncommon for A-list actors and actresses to have fairly obvious plastic surgery. Nicole Kidman recently resurfaced in Australia with a noticeably larger chest. She appears to have gone from a large A to a full C. I suspect that the surgery may been quite recent, as she looks like she may still be a bit swollen. For more of my comments and actual photos, click HERE to go to RadarOnline.com.

From the network that brought you Dr. 90210 comes the new series Botched. It stars two plastic surgeons, Dr. Paul Nassif and Dr. Terry Dubrow, previously seen as husbands on the Real Housewives series. They are both well-regarded surgeons in our field, and in the show they try to fix various ‘botched’ plastic surgeries. Their patients include the self-proclaimed first supermodel Janice Dickinson and a man known as the human Ken doll, due to his plethora of plastic surgeries. Good luck to the good doctors! Sounds like a challenge, to say the least.

It seems more and more people are heading overseas to get their plastic surgery performed. In the past, I heard mainly about Asians heading to Japan or South Korea to get work done. Now, there are companies that advertise surgical tourism as a way to save money and see a different country. This can be a very dangerous proposition. I was recently interviewed by Epoch Magazine about this subject. Here is what I said:
What Needs Fixing. There are all sorts of problems. Recently, I removed a pair of implants that were placed in Argentina. The implants were part of a major recall after it was determined that the silicone inside them was industrial-grade, not medical-grade. I’ve seen many botched liposuction surgeries, botched tummy tucks, and poor facelifts. I probably see the most problems with liposuction patients.
Risk Assessment. Unfortunately, plastic surgery is performed poorly in all countries, but the United States has some of the strictest standards for plastic surgery training in the world.
Misconceptions. These patients think that they are getting a good value. Just because the cost of the actual surgery is lower, they don’t necessarily appreciate the added costs of fixing a bad result. Also, if they get a complication, do they want to be treated in another country? Do they trust the health care system in the other country?
Keep in mind that your U.S. health insurance will likely not pay for a hospital stay or complication in another country. There is nothing worse than being horribly sick and hospitalized in another country and finding out that you will need to pay out-of-pocket for all your health care there.
They also interviewed several other plastic surgeons who gave their opinions on this important topic. You can read the article online HERE.

Congrats to Kim and Kanye for their recent nuptials. I was recently interviewed by Radar Online about Kim’s possible history of plastic surgery. The photos of her facial changes through the years are pretty impressive. So impressive, in fact, that she almost seems to be aging in reverse! Almost.
Check out the photos on Radar Online to see for yourself and to read my speculation on her possible procedures (nose job, Botox, lip injections…).

You have to see this one to believe it. Three people who had plastic surgery to look like celebs teamed up with two plastic surgeons to make this new music video that has gone viral. It’s in-your-face, gaudy, and… well… you just have to see it to believe it. Their publicist, Gina Rodriguez, truly is a master at keeping her clients in the spotlight. Crazy stuff!

I’m writing this post as I’m stuck in the middle seat on an airplane flying from San Francisco back home to Detroit. I’ve spent the past couple days at the annual Aesthetic Meeting, a massive conference organized by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and attended by thousands of the top cosmetic plastic surgeons in the world. My trip this year was brief, flying in on Saturday and flying out on Monday, but chock full of great stuff. Some of my highlights from the meeting included:
1. The emergence of Voluma – for years I’ve been a big fan of Sculptra and fat grafting to add volume and rejuvenate the cheeks (midface). Voluma is a new FDA-approved injectable that’s taken the place of Sculptra in many of my patients. The more I use it the more I like it. There were several talks on Voluma at this meeting, and I’m even more impressed now.
2. Filming for a documentary on plastic surgery – I was privileged to bring around a camera crew who are filming a documentary about plastic surgery. I can’t reveal any more than that, but it was a lot of fun hooking the producer and director up with some of the biggest names in my field.
3. Alphaeon – This is a new player in plastic surgery, aesthetics, and the self-pay health care industry. As an investor, it was great to see and feel some of their new acquisitions and offerings. I think we’ll be hearing a lot about Alphaeon in the coming years as they (we) emerge as a major player alongside other aesthetics companies like Valeant and Allergan. It was a pleasure meeting the CEO Robert Grant for the first time. I am Alphaeon!
4. Re-Connecting with some old friends – It was great to see some of my old friends again, and make some new ones, too. I really enjoyed spending time with one of my best friends, Dr. Steven Svehlak, a top Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, and his beautiful wife Wendy. Some other top aesthetic surgeons I enjoyed talking with were Dr. Michael Schenden (Troy, MI), Dr. Bob Basu (Houston, TX), Dr. Chad Tattini (Bloomington, IL), Dr. John Diaz (Beverly Hills, CA), Dr. Tim Sayed (Boca Raton, FL), Dr. Sanjay Grover (Newport Beach, CA), Dr. Brent Moelleken (Beverly Hills, CA), and Dr. George Bitar (Washington, DC).
5. Dinner with Dr. Zein Obagi – I’ve been really impressed with ZO Medical’s new skin care lines and have been selling more and more of their products in my office. I was privileged to have dinner with Dr. Obagi and several of his inner circle of doctors and advisors (like the great author / media extraordinaire Wendy Lewis and Dr. Frank Barone from Toledo, OH) last night at a nice steakhouse in town. A definite highlight.
But the best part of my trip?
Heading back home to see my wife and kids. Can’t wait.
