Tom Cruise- Pillowface?

Tuesday, April 15th, 2014

I commented in this week’s Star Magazine about Tom Cruise’s new look.  His face looks quite puffy, and can be the result of swelling from plastic surgery.  Or maybe he’s on medication that has caused his face to balloon?  Check out the photos on Radar Online.com HERE, including some of my comments.

I suspect that within a couple weeks he’ll look like the old Tom that we know and like.

Barbra Streisand – Wow! Looking Great For A 70 Year Old!

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

Did you watch the Oscars last night?  I thought it was a mediocre show overall.  Loved seeing Anne Hathaway win an Oscar for her role in Les MiserablesArgo was a great movie as well.  I didn’t expect Ang Lee to win best director over Steven Spielberg.  But the biggest surprise of the night?

Barbra Streisand!

Can you believe that she’s seventy years old!  She looks amazing, with soft, full cheeks, a chiseled neckline, and smooth skin without any obvious signs of plastic surgery.  Because she looks so good, I suspect that she’s had some help from a plastic surgeon.  Maybe a facelift, some fat injections to her cheeks, and Botox in her forehead.  Kudos to whoever might be her plastic surgeon (not me) for doing a great job.

Her wrinkles are just a memory!

Plastic Surgeon Injects His Own Face With 35 Vials Of Juvederm!

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Click HERE for video.  I removed the video since it automatically played.  So annoying!

Florida plastic surgeon Dr. Ryan Maercks filmed himself injecting his own face with 35 vials of Juvederm, as a way to show his patients how volumetric filling of the face is a very good method of facial rejuvenation. Yes, he injected it into his own face! Check out the video. It’s pretty shocking.

I agree with Dr. Maercks that one problem with filler injections is that many patients can only afford a syringe or two. Optimal results can take multiple syringes, which can be unaffordable. But, instead of injecting a dozen vials of Juvederm at $500 each, I prefer using fat grafting or Sculptra. Results with these treatments last a lot longer than Juvederm and are much less expensive.

So what do you think? What would you think about your plastic surgeon if he injected 35 vials of Juvederm into his face?

If you’re one of my patients, then make no mistake. I would never inject my face with 35 vials of Juvederm. I can barely pop a pimple on my face, much less stick needles into it.

Kris Jenner: Trout Pout Cause?

Friday, July 13th, 2012

Have you seen the recent photos of Kardashian mom Kris Jenner’s trout pout?  If not, check out the latest photo from Hollywood Life HERE.  Her upper lip looks like it’s been punched by Brock Lesnar.  Jenner claims her massive lip was due to an allergic reaction to a food she ate while in the Dominican Republic.  Many plastic surgeons have come forward to disagree.

My opinion: A food allergy would likely have caused both her upper and lower lips to swell up.  In the photo you can see it’s just her upper lip that’s affected.  An allergic reaction to filler injections is a more likely cause.  Some people may react to the preservatives in anesthetics that are mixed with the fillers.  The treatment for a reaction like this is oral steroids.

The lips have a tendency to swell quickly and dramatically.  That’s why, when a person gets punched in the face, he or she gets a fat lip and not a fat chin or fat nose.  The good thing is that the lips also shrink back to normal very quickly.  I bet Kris will look pretty normal the next time we see her.

Catherine Zeta Jones – Frozen Forehead From Botox?

Friday, May 18th, 2012

It looks to me that Catherine Zeta Jones is following in her husband Michael Douglas’s plastic surgery footsteps.  She appears to have gotten a nice dose of Botox into her forehead and between her eyebrows, causing them to be extremely smooth.  I also suspect maybe a little filler injections in her cheeks?  Overall I think she looks pretty good!

I just recommend that she doesn’t overdo things.  She’s such a natural beauty!

Does Jennifer Lopez Have A Trout Pout?

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

It appears that J. Lo may have had her lips plumped in advance of the live American Idol shows.  Check out a photo from Radar Online.  I suspect that her lips have been injected with a filler like Restylane or Juvederm.  Let’s see how she looks once the live American Idol shows start up.  Probably pretty darn good.

Madonna Looks Like Her Face Has Been “Polished, Buffed, and Smoothed”

Monday, December 5th, 2011

RadarOnline.com recently asked me to evaluate photos of Madonna.  Can you believe how she looks?  It looks like a plastic surgeon took a photo of her from her “Lucky Star” and “Like a Virgin” days and tried to make her look exactly like that.  It looks like her face has been polished, buffed, and smoothed – not to mention plumped up.  She has less wrinkles now than she did 20 years ago! Her face appears to have been plumped up with fat, tightened and tucked with a facelift, and smoothed
with multiple treatments.

FDA Approves New Dermal Filler: Belotero from Merz

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Merz Aesthetics has scored a two-fer with the FDA recently.  They’ve just announced that their newest hyaluronic acid filler, Belotero, has been approved by the FDA for the correction of moderate-to-severe wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds.  Like most hyaluronic acid fillers, Belotero scored well when compared to traditional bovine collagen injections.  Some physicians believe that Belotero is better at treating superficial lines and wrinkles when compared to the other popular hyaluronic acid fillers on the market today.

The other big FDA approval for Merz Aesthetics was Xeomin, the latest Botox competitor.  You can read about Xeomin here.

Although recently FDA-approved, most plastic surgeons and dermatologists don’t carry Belotero yet.   For more on Belotero, click here.

FDA Approves LaViv (Filler Using Your Own Tissues)

Monday, August 29th, 2011

The FDA has recently approved LaViv, an injectable filler that uses a patient’s own tissues.  This product has several steps.  A plastic surgeon first biopsies a small amount of tissue from behind a patient’s ear, sends it a special laboratory where the cells are multiplied for 3 months, then returned to the plastic surgeon to inject as a filler.  The following are board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Pickart’s views on this treatment:

In effect, azficel-T will provide a true biological solution for deep folds and wrinkles.  The results should be gradual and natural-looking.

My opinion is that this technology is certainly interesting, and I will definitely invest the time and effort to become proficient with azficel-T.  However, I suspect that the product will not be revolutionary.  I bet that the results will not be much better than the current crop of chemical fillers (such as Juvederm and Restylane) or the current biological/stimulatory fillers (such as Sculptra).  Almost certainly, azficel-T will, however, appeal to a niche of patients who demand “natural” and who want to use their own cells (rather than a lab-produced product).

The big negative will be that patients will have to have a biopsy, wait 3 months before they get their injections, and then undergo a series of treatments (rather than just one session).  A long, drawn-out process will not be appealing in our “fast-food culture.”

Lindsay Lohan at Kim Kardashian’s Wedding – Out-of-Control Plastic Surgery

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Wow.  She is out-of-control.  Lindsay Lohan arrived at Kim Kardashian’s wedding looking completely unrecognizable.  She really needs a psychiatrist, not a plastic surgeon.

Heather Locklear Turns 50 With Plastic Surgery

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Can you believe that Heather Locklear is turning 50?  Ten years ago she looked great, without any obvious signs of plastic surgery.  Now, photos like this one from Zap 2 It appear to show that she’s been seeing a plastic surgeon.  Her lips are plumped up, possibly from Restylane or Juvederm.  Her cheeks appear fuller today than they were ten years ago.  This could be due to surgical facial fat grafting.  Her face is also exceedingly smooth, likely from multiple chemical peels, laser treatments, and/or Botox.  Her tight jawline could be due to a mini-facelift.

Heather is a timeless beauty.  I think she would look even better if she laid off the injectable fillers a bit.

Has Brad Pitt Had Chemical Peels and Filler Injections?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Star Magazine has recently run a spread on Brad Pitt’s “Plastic Surgery Secret.” A very well-respected New York-based plastic surgeon believes he may have had a chemical peel to smooth the skin and filler injections such as Restylane or Juvederm to fill his wrinkles. Source.

He does look quite a bit better. The two photos are hard to compare, however, due to the different expressions in each one. The photo from Sept 6 has him looking surprised, with an open mouth, whereas the Nov 6 photo shows him smiling. It is a very common practice among plastic and cosmetic surgeons to use before and after photos which do not show the same pose. Because most everyone looks younger when they smile (since their cheeks look fuller and help cover up bags under the eyes) these photos are commonly used as ‘after’ pictures. The most famous Lunchtime Facelift (you know who they are!) before and after photos are a prime example of what I consider deceptive advertising. It’s almost as if they ask the patient to look as old and grumpy as possible in the before, and then in the after they crane their neck up and smile. It’s too bad that most people can’t spot this!

Lisa Rinna Admits to Having “Too Much Filler”

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Soap star and former Dancing with the Stars contestant Lisa Rinna has gone on record admitting to having had Botox and injectable fillers. According to an interview with In Touch Weekly:

The 45 year-old Rinna says, “We all know everyone does it! We go on Jenny Craig and do all these things to change ourselves, so why can’t we get a little filler?…

At my age, you have to look good if you want to continue working. Sometimes we do things to help, and I did. I had tried Botox, and then fillers came into the plastic surgery world, and you think, “That’s not a bad idea…”

I thought I looked great. It was a little bit more than normal, but you think it’ll go down, so I wasn’t scared. But two days ago, I saw a photo of myself at a party and went, “Oh, jeez. I have too much filler…”

I see that it’s too much, so I’m going to lay off. I don’t want to look weird! It’ll go down in three months. And of course I’ll stick with my doctor here in LA. I’ve seen him for years and he knows me best.”

I’ve written about her lips many times in the past. Click here for previous posts. Take out the excessively plumped up lips and she looks fantastic for a 45 year old woman. It’s nice to hear a Hollywood celebrity being up front about her plastic surgery. It’s too bad not all celebs are so honest (Nicole Kidman?).
