California Governor Jerry Brown – Skin Cancer On His Nose
California Governor Jerry Brown was recently treated for a skin cancer of his nose. He has now taken to wearing a band aid to cover the removal site. The diagnosis was basal cell carcinoma, the most common skin cancer, and one that very rarely will spread outside the original site, unlike melanoma, which is much more deadly.

Governor Brown got off lucky. I’ve seen many, many people develop a skin cancer of the nose which necessitates removal of a much larger portion of the nasal skin. This can result in major defects that require plastic surgeons (like myself) to reconstruct them. Most skin cancers can be (at least partially) preventable by avoiding the sun and by wearing strong SPF sunblock. Take care of your skin, folks!
