Star Jones has recently admitted to Glamour magazine that she underwent gastric bypass surgery back in August 2003, resulting in a weight loss of 160 pounds over 3 years. According to Canoe.ca, the former View cohost stated:
“Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing – talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done,” she writes. “I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor.”
“But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me,” she continues. “I was afraid to be vulnerable, and ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure.”
I find this woman as annoying as a mosquito stuck in my ear canal. I do respect her courage with admitting her surgery, however. I just hope that she hasn’t lost too much weight and has become unhealthy. It is important for patients who’ve had gastric bypass to make sure they are getting proper nutrition, and I fear she may not be.

Star Jones announced today she’s leaving the View. Everyone knows that she and the new host, Rosie O’Donnell, don’t get along. I hear that some of it stems from Star’s refusal to acknowledge gastric bypass surgery as the source of her massive weight loss.
As Star has lost more and more weight, her face has become more and more gaunt. In most people this is a natural part of the aging process, however with Star it has been vastly acclerated due to her weight loss. The best treatment for this is fat grafting, or transfer. I’d recommend taking some fat from her butt (or thighs or tummy) and tranferring it to her cheeks to give her more youthful fullness. It’s a short surgery (only about an hour) and would look fantastic for her, although it would not improve her personality. Plus, she will have the time off soon to recuperate (takes 2 weeks).

Star Jones has reportedly undergone a breast lift and tummy tuck recently while on break from the View. Unfortunately, sources are reporting that she had a major postoperative bleeding complication. This necessitated her being transported to St. John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica for blood transfusions. This is a very unusual complication, but can happen to anyone. I am very hesitant to perform tummy tucks at the same time as breast lifts for this very reason. It is a lot of surgery for someone to undergo, and depending on the surgeon’s technique, could be dangerous. Hopefully she will undergo a full recovery.
