The FDA has approved Restylane (Medicis, hyaluronic acid) to cosmetically enhance the lips. The studies performed under FDA guidance found Restylane injections to the lips to be well-tolerated and with minimal risks and side effects for up to six months. The new indication is for submucosal injection in people over the age of 21.
We’ve been using Restylane for lip enhancement off-label for several years. Although I really like the product, I’m partial to Juvederm in the lips. Juvederm is a bit softer and less gritty. Restylane is great for the nasolabial (frown) lines, though.
