Rise In Anti-Aging Procedures Of The Hands

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

So it appears that the newest trend in plastic surgery is hand rejuvenation.  We’ve heard about chin implants, the Facebook facelift, the Pippa butt lift, and now it’s treating the Madonna Mitts.  From the Daily Mail:

Cosmetic surgery clinics have  reported an 18  per cent increase in enquiries in the past month of  people having anti-ageing  procedures on their hands.

The new cosmetic surgery trend, which sees  women having dermal fillers and laser resurfacing to reduce the signs of ageing,  has been dubbed the banishing of ‘Madonna Mitts’ after popstar Madonna, 55,  who has ‘anti-aged’ almost every part of  her body but often resorts to fingerless gloves to cover her hands.

As the years pass, skin on the hands thins,  causing veins to become more prominent and liver spots to appear.

While make-up can disguise tell-tale signs of  ageing on the face, it’s more difficult with hands – which is why it’s often  said that hands are the best indicator of age.

Speaking about the latest cosmetic trend, a  spokesman for the Transform clinic, which has seen an 18 per cent increase in  the number of anti-ageing hand procedures perforemed, said: ‘Our hands are  exposed to the sun more frequently than other parts of the body and a failure to  apply sun cream to hands as regularly as we do the face makes them susceptible  to sunspots and accelerated aging.

There are many ways to rejuvenate the hands.  The first approach to take are creams.  Hydroquinone can be used along with an exfoliating cream to lighten age spots.  IPL treatments can also be used in conjunction with creams to further enhance the results.  Some doctors are injecting fillers into the hands, such as Sculptra and Juvederm.  Other doctors are injecting fat into the hands to soft them up and reduce the appearance of veins.

The hands are definitely a body part that shows its age, and I agree that treatments for them are definitely becoming more and more popular.

Madonna Looks Like Her Face Has Been “Polished, Buffed, and Smoothed”

Monday, December 5th, 2011

RadarOnline.com recently asked me to evaluate photos of Madonna.  Can you believe how she looks?  It looks like a plastic surgeon took a photo of her from her “Lucky Star” and “Like a Virgin” days and tried to make her look exactly like that.  It looks like her face has been polished, buffed, and smoothed – not to mention plumped up.  She has less wrinkles now than she did 20 years ago! Her face appears to have been plumped up with fat, tightened and tucked with a facelift, and smoothed
with multiple treatments.

Does Madonna Use CACI On Her Face?

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

The Mirror is reporting that Madonna has given up on injectable fillers and Botox to keep her face looking young and has resorted to a facial machine called the CACI to give herself a “nonsurgical facelift.”    According to the Mirror:

The CACI facial machine uses a roller across the face which transmits tiny  electrical impulses to stimulate muscle tone and enhance skin tissue. It is said  to be one of the best anti-ageing treatments around.
A source said: “Madonna is starting CACI treatments on her face and body and  can’t get enough. She’s through with spending hours in the gym.  She has a lot of work on her plate with recording her new album then she’ll  tour again next year. She needed something to give a quick fix and says it’s  transformed her life.”

The Material Girl tried the face treatment at a clinic before  buying the machine. She is considering buying a machine to treat the rest of her  body.

I don’t have any experience with CACI, but my overall experience with devices like this hasn’t been good.  We filmed a segment of the Rachael Ray Show where we tested a device used to tone the facial muscles (and thereby reduce wrinkles and sagging skin) and didn’t see any noticeable differences afterwards.  Obviously CACI isn’t the same, but in my opinion most of these devices are better in theory than in practice.

Madonna To Undergo $200,000 Worth of Plastic Surgery?

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Is the Material Girl planning to transform herself into plastic? According to Showbizspy.com:

“Madonna has been feeling her age since her divorce from Guy Ritchie in 2008,” a source told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper.“She’s been dating the model Jesus Luz who is a lot younger than her and she wants to keep looking her best…Her friends have recommended things to have done and she’s considering them as a little treat for turning 52 in August… She wants things to look natural with nothing too radical… She’s still working out seven days a week and because she’s so skinny she feels her cleavage has gone. So her friends think she should go up one size and get them lifted…She’s got some spider veins on her legs that have come with age so she’s planning to get those sorted first and then will spend the next year overhauling herself completely.”

So what do you think Madonna can have that would add up to $200,000? Let’s fancy a guess:

1. Revision Facelift: $10,000

2. Facial Fat Grafting: $5000

3. Fractional Laser Treatments: $4000

4. Breast implant revision: $10,000

5. Body skin tightening treatments, such as the Cutera Titan: $4000

6. Spider vein treatments: $2000

7. Botox: $500

8. Filler injections like Perlane: $1000

Wow. We’re only at $36,000. What else can she possibly consider? Now we get into the weird and completely unnecessary stuff: 9. Endoscopic browlift: $8000. 10. Revision blepharoplasty: $5000. 11. Laser liposuction to sweat glands of the armpits: $5000. 12. Hand plumping injections: $4000. 13. Batwing reduction: $10,000. 14. Mini tummy tuck: $7000. 15. Designer laser vaginoplasty (yes, some docs actually call it that!): $7000? (My wild guess). 16. Fat injections to buttocks: $10,000. 17. Full body laser hair removal: $8000.

All of this only adds up to $100,000. To get to $200,000, I guess we’ll have to add some really crazy things like: 18: Rib removal to thin the torso: $20,000. 19. Leg breaking and lengthening to add an inch of height (we get shorter as we age, you know): $30,000. 20. Second Toe Shortening: $10,000. And a few minor ones: 21. Restylane injections to the feet to help with high heels (check out my CBS Early Show clip on this) $2000. 22. Earlobe shortening: $1000. 23. Injections of her own plasma to her face: $4000. and finally the most bizarre: 24. Creation of wings: $33,000+. TOTAL: $200,000.

Madonna – Chin Implant?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Madonna‘s recent appearance in Brazil has sparked rumors she may have had a recent chin augmentation. As you can see by the photo at this link: stuff.co.nz her chin does look a bit prominent, and maybe even swollen from recent surgery. Why would she have this procedure done? I never thought her chin was small in the first place!

Chin implants are placed via small incisions either inside the mouth (my preferred technique) or under the chin. When inserted through the mouth there is no visible scar afterwards. I often see people who come in asking for a rhinoplasty to reduce the size of their nose when the real problem is a tiny chin. A small chin can actually make the nose look bigger than it really is. Just a quick lesson on facial harmony…

Madonna and Madamism?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Is Madonna turning into a Madame puppet-face? Cityrag.com has coined (or propagated) the term “Madamism,” which is a process some stars undergo as they have too much plastic surgery. They begin to look more and more like Madame the puppet. Other stars who may be undergoing Madamism include Priscilla Presley, Faye Dunaway, Cher, and maybe even Lara Flynn Boyle.

Check out cityrag.com for more details.

What’s Happening to Madonna?

Friday, August 1st, 2008

What’s the story with Madonna‘s appearance? She seems to be getting thinner and thinner (check out her arms) yet her cheeks remain full and soft. Can this be due to plastic surgery?

I think it is. There are three ways to effectively add volume to the face. The first is facial fat grafting. This is one of my favorite plastic surgeries to perform because it is minimally invasive and can really return a nice, youthful softness to the face. The second way to add volume to the face is via solid implants. With the exception of a chin implant, I am not a fan of these types of facial implants. Some of them require screws to keep them in place. Due to their hard nature, they also do not achieve the softer look of facial fat grafting, or the third technique: Sculptra injections. I believe Madonna may have had Sculptra injections to her face over the last several years to retain volume and softness. Sculptra is FDA approved for HIV-related facial wasting, but is often used for general cosmetic reasons. I think it is a very effective way to enhance the face.

So why do I think Madonna has had Sculptra and not facial fat grafting? Since it appears the fat in the rest of her body has all but disappeared, I would expect the same to occur in her face. However, even with an extremely thin body, her cheeks remain full. Sculptra-enhanced cheeks should not deflate quite as much as fat-enhanced cheeks.

For more of my thoughts on Madonna’s possible $100,000 worth of plastic surgery, check out last week’s issue of In Touch Weekly.

Madonna – Plastic?

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

What looks unnatural about this recent photo of Madonna? Here’s my take:

  1. Her forehead, glabella (between the eyebrows), and eyes look virtually wrinkle-free. This is very unusual in a woman her age. My guess is that her plastic surgeon does a nice Botox job.
  2. Her cheeks are very soft and full for someone with such low body fat. This can be a possible result of Fat Grafting or Sculptra Injections. My comments on her recent “bruise” photos can be seen in last week’s In Touch Weekly.
  3. She has a very nice jawline for someone her age. Has she had a possible well-done facelift?

Overall, I think she looks fantastic. What material is the Material Girl made of? Maybe Plastic?

Madonna’s Black Eyes – Plastic Surgery?

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Madonna was recently photographed with two black eyes, as shown on this photo:x17online.com . The current In Touch Weekly magazine has my comments on it, but I will also offer them here.

The most common cause of black eyes like this is trauma. Most people who are assaulted can get one black eye, but when the base of the skull is broken (such as in a bad car crash) then both eyes can often become black. Now, I seriously doubt she’s been in a car crash or physically assaulted, so the next most likely culprit is surgery.

Lower blepharoplasty surgery is the most common cause of bruising under both eyes, as seen in this photo. While I saw this quite commonly with the traditional technique, the newer transconjunctival blepharoplasty (hidden scar) often doesn’t create bruising.
Other common causes of bruising like this include rhinoplasty, facial fat grafting, and Restylane, Juvederm, or Sculptra injections under the eyes. Take your pick. I guess we’ll see how she looks in the near future.
