Melissa Rivers Staged A Plastic Surgery Intervention For Joan Rivers

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Joan Rivers’ daughter Melissa staged a plastic surgery for her plastic surgery-addicted mother.  Was it a bona-fide intervention, or just a staged PR stunt for their reality show?

I suspect the latter.

Joan Rivers Undergoes 734th Plastic Surgery Procedure

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Joan Rivers undergoes her reportedly 734th plastic surgery procedure on the premiere episode of “Joan and Melissa” on WE TV.  734 procedures??  This must include minor procedures like injections of Botox and laser treatments.  At this point, Joan having plastic surgery is a calculated career move, like Katy Perry changing her hair style.

I was one of the consultants for her plastic surgery guidebook “Men Are Stupid… And They Like Big Boobs” which was actually very informative and well-written.  For more on Joan’s recent surgery, click HERE for an article and photo slideshow in the OC Register’s In Your Face blog.

For what it’s worth, I REALLY don’t think Joan Rivers needed any more plastic surgery…

Joan Rivers – A Piece of (Plastic Surgery) Work

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Joan Rivers has released a new documentary on her life, titled A Piece of Work. It has garnered rave reviews from every media outlet I’ve read, including Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, and even Howard Stern. I’ve not seen it yet, but everything I hear is really good. Regarding her plastic surgery, though, she’s a bit matter-of-fact.

“When I went into doing this film I thought, ‘God, if I can just crack why she got all the plastic surgery.’ That was the fascination I had,” said co-director Stern. “But she’s so matter of fact about it that it’s almost boring. The answer is, ‘I feel I look better with the surgery. I feel I look good at 77. If it makes you feel good, do it.’” (from the LA Times)

I admire the fact that at 77, she remains a completely relevant figure in entertainment. While countless others have come and gone, Joan is still plugging away. She was also kind enough to utilize me as a contributor to her plastic surgery-related book, Men Are Stupid…And They Like Big Boobs. While some believe her plastic surgery is overdone, who cares? She’s doing great!

Joan Rivers Comments on Plastic Surgery

Friday, February 27th, 2009

A recent article contains some of Joan Rivers’ comments on plastic surgery. Here is an excerpt:

Her collaboration with Valerie Frankel, titled “Men Are Stupid … And They Like Big Boobs: A Woman’s Guide to Beauty Through Plastic Surgery,” is “really a serious book, but I wrote it funny, as if I’m talking to you — because I’m funny. … If you want to put a chin in, go to the chapter on chins. If you want to raise your breasts, it will tell you every thing you want to know.”To research the guide, which offers helpful information on the gamut of cosmetic surgery options, she and her co-writer interviewed 25 plastic surgeons. “They are so boring, these men,” she said… In spite of the title, which she claims is something Marilyn Monroe once said to her, Rivers recommends plastic surgery as “something you should do for yourself.”"But society is based on looks,” she said. “And anyone that says that’s not so, is an idiot. If you think big boobs make you look nice, put them in.”Men should have work done too, she said. “I hate a turkey neck on anyone.”Always up front about her own plastic surgery, which she began in college with her nose being “thinned, not fixed,” Rivers added a postscript to anyone who doesn’t think they need it. “If you are happy with the way you look, that’s wonderful. How lucky you are.”

Boring??? The truth hurts sometimes…

Cosmetic Surgeon Goes After Joan Rivers to Get Publicity

Friday, February 20th, 2009

A general/vascular/cosmetic surgeon in California has just sent out a press release attacking Joan Rivers’ guide to plastic surgery. In his press release he states,

“While Joan Rivers certainly has a right to hawk her beliefs about plastic surgery, her book and the half dozen reality shows that focus on plastic surgery undermine the credibility of the beauty enhancement business.”

Who is this guy to talk? He’s a general and vascular surgeon who practices cosmetic surgery! To me it looks like a blatant attempt to hop on Ms. Rivers’ coattails and get a little media coverage. I find Joan’s book well-written, humorous, and chock-full of useful information for anyone considering plastic surgery. Maybe he didn’t like the chapter where she encourages everyone to seek a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Click here for the press release. To purchase a copy of Joan’s book, click below.

Dr. Youn is a Contributor to Joan Rivers’ Guide to Plastic Surgery

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Joan Rivers has recently published a guide to plastic surgery with famed writer Valerie Frankel, called Men are Stupid…and They Like Big Boobs. I was fortunate enough to be one of only six plastic surgeons who contributed information and opinions for this book. While everyone has their own thoughts on Joan’s plastic surgery (no, I’ve never treated her), this book is a fantastic layperson’s guide to the often confusing and complicated world of cosmetic plastic surgery. The chapters are well-written, well-researched, easy to read, and often very humorous. I even learned a few things myself while reading it!

I highly recommend that anyone with even a passing interest in plastic surgery pick up this book. You can buy a discounted copy by clicking on the Amazon.com ad below. She also comments on other celebrities and their plastic surgery results. Watch for my comments on rhinoplasty and injectable fillers!

Thank you to Valerie Frankel and Joan Rivers for inviting me to be a part of this book.
