Did you watch the Billboard Music Awards the other night? I enjoyed the show, and even noticed some plastic surgery on the screen. Some are, I believe, pretty obvious, like Wayne Newton’s face. Others, like Kelly Rowland, just look fantastic. This photo was taken Sunday night at the show. Some of you may have known that she underwent a very tasteful breast augmentation a few years ago (check out this post from 2008 for before-and-after photos). Today it looks like her breast implants have always been a part of her. I believe she’s an example of great celeb plastic surgery.

So you have probably all heard by now that Angelina Jolie was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene and has undergone a double mastectomy with reconstruction. The actress and director wrote a very poignant, well-written op-ed for the New York Times. Here is a segment of it:
On April 27, I finished the three months of medical procedures that the mastectomies involved. During that time I have been able to keep this private and to carry on with my work.
But I am writing about it now because I hope that other women can benefit from my experience. Cancer is still a word that strikes fear into people’s hearts, producing a deep sense of powerlessness. But today it is possible to find out through a blood test whether you are highly susceptible to breast and ovarian cancer, and then take action.
My own process began on Feb. 2 with a procedure known as a “nipple delay,” which rules out disease in the breast ducts behind the nipple and draws extra blood flow to the area. This causes some pain and a lot of bruising, but it increases the chance of saving the nipple.
Two weeks later I had the major surgery, where the breast tissue is removed and temporary fillers are put in place. The operation can take eight hours. You wake up with drain tubes and expanders in your breasts. It does feel like a scene out of a science-fiction film. But days after surgery you can be back to a normal life.
Nine weeks later, the final surgery is completed with the reconstruction of the breasts with an implant. There have been many advances in this procedure in the last few years, and the results can be beautiful.
I choose not to keep my story private because there are many women who do not know that they might be living under the shadow of cancer. It is my hope that they, too, will be able to get gene tested, and that if they have a high risk they, too, will know that they have strong options.
Life comes with many challenges. The ones that should not scare us are the ones we can take on and take control of.
I applaud Angelina for coming forward and revealing her diagnosis and treatment. Hopefully this helps to inform people not only about the potential diagnosis and treatment options for breast cancer, but also inform women about their reconstructive options. Studies show that women who undergo immediate reconstruction after mastectomy benefit psychologically a great deal.

If you’ve ever wondered how plastic surgeons reconstruct a woman’s breast after mastectomy, there is a very well-written article in CNN.com HERE. I’m quoted in the article, which also describes how Angelina’s reconstruction was likely performed.

To honor Tom Cruise’s new hit movie, here’s a link to an analysis of how I think Tom looks so young, now into his 5th decade. From MSNBC.com:
“I don’t think he’s found the Fountain of Youth, but I think he’s done the next best thing — found a good plastic surgeon,” says Youn, a regular contributor to msnbc.com and TODAY.com. “He looks like someone who has had a plethora of the best cosmetic treatments available.”
Youn, who hasn’t treated Cruise, believes he’s had multiple procedures done. “To look as good as he does, it’s not possible to have had just one thing done.”

I’ve liked actress Hayden Panettiere ever since she debuted as the indestructible cheerleader on “Heroes.” The star of “Nashville” has been photographed wearing a bikini with a suspiciously larger chest. Some photos even appear to show wrinkling that is consistent with saline breast implants. You can see a photo of it, along with my comments on Radar Online.com HERE.
So what can Hayden do to reduce her possible implant wrinkling? Implant wrinkling is typically improved by switching to a silicone implant, injecting fat into the breast tissue, or placing a sheet of Alloderm (acellular dermal matrix – radiated cadaver skin) over the implant. Or she could gain weight, which would thicken the fat on her breasts.
Wrinkles or not, Hayden looks great.

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I thought it was a mediocre show overall. Loved seeing Anne Hathaway win an Oscar for her role in Les Miserables. Argo was a great movie as well. I didn’t expect Ang Lee to win best director over Steven Spielberg. But the biggest surprise of the night?
Barbra Streisand!
Can you believe that she’s seventy years old! She looks amazing, with soft, full cheeks, a chiseled neckline, and smooth skin without any obvious signs of plastic surgery. Because she looks so good, I suspect that she’s had some help from a plastic surgeon. Maybe a facelift, some fat injections to her cheeks, and Botox in her forehead. Kudos to whoever might be her plastic surgeon (not me) for doing a great job.
Her wrinkles are just a memory!

Has Lee Majors become a modern-day bionic man? He sure looks a lot better than he should at his advanced age! I gave my opinion of whether he may have had plastic surgery to the National Enquirer. You can check out my comments HERE.

So do you think that Jennifer Lopez has had plastic surgery? Yes?
Well, you’re wrong! Or at least she says you are. In a recent interview with People Magazine, J.Lo denied having plastic surgery but wouldn’t rule it out in the future. From the NY Post:
J.Lo just says no to Botox, and from what we can see above this turtleneck, it’s working.
The ageless former “American Idol” judge said she’s never had plastic surgery or anti-wrinkle Botox treatments — but won’t rule it out in the future.
“When I need to, maybe I will,” Lopez, 43, says in the latest People magazine. “I don’t know how I’m gonna feel. I reserve the right to not know right now. And I don’t judge anybody who does it.”
I’ve heard rumors from one source that she’s had liposuction years ago. I suspect that she’s also had a procedure to tighten her abdomen after having twins (such as a tummy tuck). I’ve never seen signs of obvious Botox or filler injections, though. So is it possible she’s telling the truth about being a plastic surgery virgin?
I suppose it’s possible, but it would be pretty difficult for a normal person to look as good as she does without at least some help from a plastic surgeon!

So I’m watching the Golden Globe Awards tonight in HD in my living room, and I keep seeing examples of celebrity plastic surgery on my set. So instead of an in-depth analysis, I thought I’d list the people who I believe have had work done, as I watch the show. One note: I’m starting this about an hour in.
Jennifer Westfeldt – Actress and girlfriend of John Hamm – Her cheeks look puffy and chipmunk-like – Sculptra injections in her cheeks?
Hugh Jackman’s wife – Rhinoplasty, Botox in her forehead
Julie Bowen – Breast implants
Rosario Dawson – Breast implants
Kate Hudson – Breast implants
Jessica Lange – Browlift, Botox, Facelift
Megan Fox – Rhinoplasty, Botox
Nicole Kidman – Botox
Sylvester Stallone – Browlift, possible facelift?
Jay Leno – Chin implant
Mel Gibson – He just looks terrible. Maybe the ugliness inside this anti-Semitic, misogynistic monster is finally showing on the outside.
Overall, I really enjoyed the show. Love that Les Miserables won!

Strange and interesting article from the National Enquirer:
In one of his latest bids to turn back time, Simon had his saggy “turkey neck” tightened in a noninvasive procedure by a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon in October, said the source.
The neck-lift was likely done with the new Fractora Firm device, said Michigan-based plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn, who has not treated Cowell. The device uses radio frequency energy to create tissue-firming collagen under the skin.
After the treatment, “Simon brought a technician with a portable hyperbaric chamber into his Beverly Hills home,” said the insider. “He spent about an hour a day in the chamber for a period of weeks. He usually fell asleep, and when he got out, he said he felt like a new man.
“Simon believes that being in the chamber helped suppress the swelling from his surgery as well as bloating from his drinking and years-long smoking habit.”
Since I’ve never treated Simon, I can’t say for sure what he had done. I do commend him for being candid with his Botox use. Overall, he looks like he’s aging very well. But hyperbaric oxygen chamber? There are no studies that prove that hyperbaric oxygen reverses aging.

Can you believe Goldie Hawn is 67 years old? She looks amazing. Goldie gave an interview on this week’s Prevention magazine about some of her beauty secrets. From the magazine:
“I do try to do some form of exercise 4 days a week. At home in California, I’ll bike up the mountain. Or I’ll do Pilates or Spin. And I do eat a lot of greens. I eat healthy, but I’m not a vegetarian.”
In addition to living a clean life and meditation, I also suspect that Goldie’s had a good amount of plastic surgery, too. She does look really good for her age, although at times it looks like she may have gone a little Overboard.

I was recently interviewed by Radar Online about the legendary actress Sophia Loren. Has she had plastic surgery? Although she officially denies it, I think it’s very unlikely someone can look as good as she does at the age of 78 without the help of a plastic surgeon. I suspect that she’s had quite a bit of work done, including at least one facelift, upper and lower eyelid surgery, fat injections to her cheeks, filler injections to her lips, and a breast augmentation.
It’s just my opinion, since I am not her doctor and am not privy to her medical history. That being said, my grandma looked nothing like her when she was 78!

Sofia Vergara recently discussed her boobs and plastic surgery during an interview with Health Magazine. From The Celebrity Cafe.com:
My publicist [at the time the star moved to America] told me, ‘I think you should just reduce your boobs because nobody’s going to take you serious here,’” Sofia Vergara said in Health magazine.
In a land where 34 DD cups are typically silicone, those who are blessed with the extra curves are lumped in with the rest of the plastic surgery crowd.
Sofia’s mother was not in agreement with the publicist about the reduction surgery. In fact, she went as far as saying that “God is going to punish you! You can’t cut your boobs!”
In the end, Vergara says she’s happy with the decision she made to not go through with the surgery. She admitted that the large boobs have even become a huge part of her character on Modern Family.
I LOVE Modern Family. I think it’s the best show on TV. Cam and Phil Dunphy are freakin’ hilarious.

One of my favorite Phil Dunphy quotes:
Phil: Luke, I am your father. That’s what I said to you when you were coming out of your mom’s lady parts.

Before-and-after photos of “Teen Mom” star Farrah Abraham were posted on In Touch Weekly, including a poll to see whether readers thought she looked better or worse after her chin augmentation and rhinoplasty. To the surprise of plastic surgeons everywhere, a shocking 95% thinks she looks worse after her procedures than before!
I’d have to disagree. I don’t know her plastic surgeon, but I think he did a nice job. Her profile is definitely improved. Her chin projects appropriately and the bump on her nose is gone. I’d give the result a thumbs up.
So why do people dislike her new appearance? Is it the Jennifer Grey syndrome? Sometimes we get used to how a person looks- flaws and everything. When those perceived flaws are removed, then sometimes we don’t like it. That person may technically look better, but can appear too different and even unrecognizable. Maybe that’s why so many people are disliking her new look.
Or maybe they’re just haters.

Here is a revealing interview with Sharon Osbourne on her CBS show The Talk. Sharon shares that genetic testing revealed she carried a gene for breast cancer, and therefore underwent a double mastectomy for prophylaxis. She has also sworn off any further plastic surgery, due to seeing photos of herself looking like she’s had work done.
I think it’s great that Sharon is so open about her health and plastic surgery. It sounds like her genetic testing wasn’t all that planned, so it’s good that the circumstances occurred as they did. Some genes carry a nearly 100% risk of developing breast cancer, so it’s important that anyone with a major family history of breast cancer talk with their doctor about whether genetic testing might be important for them. Technology has really gone a long way in saving lives that could have otherwise been lost. It’s good that Sharon brought this topic up.
I would also convey to Sharon that I think the majority of her plastic surgery looked very well done! I wouldn’t recommend that she swear off ALL plastic surgery. In general, it’s served her well!

MTV’s Teen Mom Farrah Abraham previously underwent a breast augmentation during the taping of the reality show. She’s now come forward to In Touch magazine (complete with photos!) revealing that she underwent a rhinoplasty and chin augmentation. She admitted, ”I’ve hated my nose since I was 13. I don’t have to hate anything on my face ever again! I feel gorgeous!”
It’s nice to hear a star be so positive about her plastic surgery. I enjoy combining rhinoplasty and chin augmentation, since they work so well to improve the harmony of the face. I’ve seen many people who believe their nose is too big, when the real problem is a small chin! I typically use a solid silicone chin implant, placed through a small incision inside the mouth. There is no visible scar, the area heals quickly, and the implant can be removed easily if the patient doesn’t like it.

I swear Christie Brinkley just doesn’t age! She looks almost as young as she did when Billy Joel sang “Uptown Girl” to her. Her skin is flawless, and she has nary a jowl or wrinkle on her. Could she have gotten the help of a plastic surgeon?
I think so. No 58 year old woman should look this good without at least some work! I suspect that she’s had several chemical peels and laser treatments to smooth her skin, Botox injections to relax her forehead, and maybe even an eyelid lift to remove sagging eyelid skin. Has she had a facelift, though? Tough call, but from the looks of it I’d answer ‘probably so.’ Most 58 year old women have at least some drooping skin and early jowling.
Plastic surgery or not, she looks amazing!

Modern Family and Ed actress Julie Bowen recently revealed her thoughts on plastic surgery in an interview with Health Magazine:
“I’ve had lasers leveled at my face, and I would like to do Fraxel…I do find it odd that people choose to do stuff that makes them look like crazy Hollywood faces but I’ve got zero judgment about it…I’ve worn some ugly shoes,” she told the magazine.
While Julie admits to fractionated laser treatments, there wasn’t a mention of the possibility of her having breast implants. A couple years ago it appeared that her chest increased in size from an A to a nice B. Whether she admits to breast augmentation or not, she’s a classic Hollywood beauty and a great actress. I’m looking forward to the premiere of Modern Family!

Former Bachelorette Trista Sutter has undergone a breast augmentation and eyelid lift! In a recent interview with Life and Style, the mother of two stated:
“After nursing both my kids for a year each, my boobs were deflated,” mom of
two Trista Sutter, 39, reveals exclusively in the new issue of Life & Style.
“And I had a droopy eye. It was something that I noticed in every picture I’ve
ever taken.”
She decided to move forward with getting plastic surgery on her eyes and
breasts — a blepharoplasty to lift her eyelids and remove the bags under her
eyes, and breast augmentation with an internal lift that increased her cup size
from a small B to a full C — all in one day.
“I realized that the surgery was something I had to do for myself, just for
my own self-confidence and to feel good again about being in bathing suits and
being intimate with my husband,” Trista, who fell in love with her husband,
Ryan, on The Bachelorette, in 2003, tells the mag.
“He wanted me to be happy, so he said, ‘Whatever you need to do to make
yourself happy, go for it,’” she says with a smile.
“I wanted to feel pretty again — and I do!”
You can check out a before-and-after of Trista HERE.
As you can see, she looks fantastic. Her breasts fit her frame nicely, and her eyelids look great. This is definitely an example of great celebrity plastic surgery. Kudos to her surgeon for the great work, and kudos to Trista for being so honest about her plastic surgery.

Ali Wentworth is an actress and writer married to George Stephanopoulos. She’s been very up front and candid about her recent blepharoplasty surgery. She posted a photo of her appearance shortly after the procedure on her twitter account: https://twitter.com/AliEWentworth. As you can see, she’s quite swollen and bruised. This is a pretty typical appearance a few days after surgery.
It’s great to see her being so open about revealing her plastic surgery. More recent photos show her looking great! Kudos to Ali!
