Bristol Palin Admits To “Corrective Jaw Surgery”
In the most recent issue of US Magazine, Bristol Palin admits to having had “corrective jaw surgery” resulting in the facial changes we now see while on Dancing with the Stars. According to US Weekly:
“It’s not plastic surgery,” she tells Us Weekly exclusively in the new issue, out Wednesday. She explains: “I had corrective jaw surgery” back in December 2010…
“Yes,” she admits, “It improved the way I look, but this surgery was necessary for medical reasons…so my jaw and teeth could properly realign…I don’t obsess over my face”
Still, “I am absolutely thrilled with the results,” she gushes. “I look older, more mature, and don’t have as much of a chubby little baby face!”
Although she hasn’t explained the exact procedure, I speculate that it’s very similar to the surgery I underwent as a teenager. People who have either extra small or extra large jaws can undergo plastic surgery where the jaw is broken in two places and then either advanced forward or set back. This can help cosmetically (as it did for me) and functionally (to improve eating, speech, etc.). It’s an extremely painful procedure.
I had my jaw broken and set back, then wired shut for six weeks. I describe the ordeal in my tell-all plastic surgery book In Stitches. Newer techniques allow most patients to avoid the wiring shut for six weeks in exchange for braces and rubber bands. Overall, Bristol looks great. I wonder if she may have had some liposuction under her chin done at the same time…
